House Party

I started this playlist a few weeks after the effects of a global shutdown started to seep into my personal life. I was never much of an outgoing person before the pandemic, but I soon came to the realization that I didn’t want to die before experiencing what it was like being in sweaty, darkly lit House music club in London. This was my attempt to recreate that for a party of one, in my bedroom.

Old is New

The idea for this playlist has been on my mind for quite a long time. There’s nothing I quite enjoy more than stumbling upon an old track that was sampled by a hip-hop track I’d listened to already. A huge shoutout to producers like J-Dilla, Quasimoto and Madlib for their incredible and eclectic crate digging.

Some days are nice

Ever wake up in a really good mood on a Monday and feel like dancing even though Friday is nowhere near the horizon yet? This playlist is my expression of that feeling.

Love Music, Love Life

This playlist came about as a result of a series of discussions I had with my friend Joe about the evolution of my music tastes from my childhood days of listening to The Kazbah on Smooth 98.1. Huge thanks to him and Ali for their contributions to this ever expanding playlist.

Inner Hippie

I love this playlist so much.

Ode to the Black President

I could not escape the music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti growing up, my dad was a huge fan. I have so many memories of my dad driving my siblings and I to school and blasting songs like I.T.T, Pansa Pansa and so many others. This playlist serves as my guide for someone looking for a starting point to one of the greatest musical acts from the African continent.

Судно

This playlist came to life as a result of having the song Судно by Molchat Doma stuck in my head for several days. That feeling was further intensified by a re-watch of the 2017 movie starring Charlize Theron, Atomic Blonde. I just couldn’t get those synths out of my head

Music to explore planets to

Ya like Jazz? well, I sure do! This playlist was inspired by grand cinematic music in big budget sci-fi movies.

Drums Drums Drums

Just some grooovy, groovy drums man. This playlist is my appreciation for deep house tracks that heavily incorporate percussion instruments in such a way that you can’t help but move to them.

Big Up The Ladies

Hard hitting house, acid, electra and experimental electronic music as drummed up by some of my favorite women DJs and artists.

all the ✨vibes✨

Ever find yourself pining desperately for a weekend that is almost within reach but not quite there yet? well I’ve got a playlist to go with that mood.

Afrofuturism

“Undeniably African, but with modern touches” is how I’d describe this playlist. There’s something quite appealing about mixing elements of sound together that on the surface shouldn’t blend together. And yet that is exactly why it works so well.

Grime and to a lesser extent, Drill

The biggest mistake you can make is to confuse Grime for hip-hop in British accents. Grime is Grime.

Reggaemylitis

If there was a singular genre that I could point to as the soundtrack to my childhood, it’d have to be Reggae or specifically, Roots Reggae and Dub. This playlist encompasses some of my favorites from over the years.

Essential DnB

The first DnB album I listened to and immensely enjoyed was Bachelors of Science’s Warehouse Dayz. Ironically, while this group actually got their start in the US I have always associated DnB with British club music.

On the road again

It’s 6a.m in the morning and you’re not quite up yet. You’ve got a long drive to make and plenty of alone time to introspect. This playlist was made for such a scenario.

Disco Fever

The emergence of disco in the early 70s to late 80s did not go unnoticed in Africa. Unfortunately, this era of African music didn’t get the following it should have. Thanks to the diligent work of crate diggers however, some of these classics have gone on to become cult hits in the modern era and I am totally here for it.

Don’t break my heart

Whether you’re in love or going through a breakup, this playlist is guaranteed to get you in your feelings.
